And the Shortsfest winners are …

Aspen Filmfest has announced the Shortsfest prizewinners. Shortsfest 2006, the 15th annual edition of Filmfest’s celebration of short films, was held April 5-9.

The Audience Favorite Award was a three-way tie between the animation “The Danish Poet,” a Canada/Norway co-production; the Australian horror film “Monster”; and the American documentary “Smitten.”

“The Danish Poet” also won the Animated Eye, with the Spanish film “Eramos Pocos” taking Best Comedy. Best Documentary went to the American short “Do You Want the Elephant Music,” and Best Drama was awarded to the UK film, “Antonio’s Breakfast.”



The Palestinian/French film “Be Quiet” earned Best Student Film, with “Badgered” taking Best Short Short. The Atomfilms Studio Award went to “Heavy Metal Drummer,” and “Hibernation” won Best Cinematography.

Three Ellen Awards were given: to “The Danish Poet,” for most original, and to the French film “For Interieur” and “Monster” for distinctive achievement. The BAFTA/LA Award for Excellence went to the Norwegian film “Bawke,” with honorable mention for the US/Moroccan film “Your Dark Hair Ihsan” and “For Interieur.”




The Youth Jury Prize was given to the UK film “Lucky.” Five films earned Special Jury Recognition for Outstanding Performance by a Child: “Bawke,” “Be Quiet,” “Heavy Metal Drummer,” “Lucky” and “Rajkumari.”
