An outdoor treat

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank the Aspen Recreation Department, Tim Anderson and Jon Larson for the outdoor skating next to the Aspen Recreation Center.

What a great idea and treat for our community and guests. It is not so much that the outdoor ice (“pond”) is getting a ton of use – which it is – it is how it is getting used. The pond is relatively uncontrolled and very freewheeling; it is attracting kids, guests and parents who can count on it always being open and looking for a place to have a good time. It is a fun place next to the sledding hill and really captures the real fun that going skating with some friends can be.

I never had the good fortune to live near a pond growing up; now our kids have one, and it is great. Thanks for the hard work and outstanding efforts to provide great recreational choices for our community.
