An invitation to Lance
August 6, 2009
I have a lot of respect and admiration for Lance Armstrong, but I am not sure what Mick Ireland wants to achieve with this “Lance Day” idea. Beside the fact that our little town has a lot of residents or part-time residents who have achieved greatness and done a lot for important causes, I would like to remind everyone that the Aspen Snowmass Ride for the Cure is coming up on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Over the Ride’s five past events Komen Aspen has raised more than $1.5 million, with 75 percent funding local breast cancer programs and 25 percent funding national research. Thanks to the enormous work of Komen Aspen staff, volunteers, fundraisers and the efforts of the riders.
For me, it is an event totally aligned with the spirit of Lance Armstrong’s cause. Whether you are a resident or a visitor of our area it is a very uplifting event. Become involved? You can ride the mileage of your choice up to 100 miles! So make it your “Lance day!” For more information and sign up go to http://www.komenaspen.org or phone 920-0250. Maybe Lance would like to ride it too … it would make his day … and ours too!
