An inspiration

Editor’s note: The following letter is being rerun because of an editing error in the original version published March 14.

Dear Editor:

On Saturday, walking the Rio Grande Trail from Colorado Mountain College’s Spring Valley Road, I heard a small, private plane above. All I could think of was Andy Godfrey’s heartfelt, beautifully written, tragic story in the March 8 Aspen Times Weekly. I was a 26-year-old teacher at the time, and I remember the story as if it were yesterday.

Painful as it is, with your family roots and living with Marianne and Johnny Schuhmacher (who have three other children), Mark, Andy and Paula (it’s uncanny how you look exactly like your sister) have become wonderful and accomplished adults.

You are an inspiration. I’m extremely proud of you.

Andy, if you don’t find an author, you must tell the full story yourself. You are capable of writing it.
