An inconvenient airport
Dear Editor:It seemed to take CDOT less than two weeks to tear up and repave 82 from the roundabout all the way through town even with having to keep traffic moving. I’m wondering why it is going to take two months to close the airport to pave the runway, a shorter distance with no traffic in the way? There must be more going on out there than what has been revealed to the public.I know your reporters are prohibited from going beyond official statements of public officials when discussing the affairs of local government, but perhaps you could consult your aviation expert – you know, the guy whose business you advertise every couple of weeks in what is purportedly a news article. The expert who swore not long ago that there would be no commercial jet which could fly into Aspen to replace the old BAe 146, and that the runway must be lengthened immediately to accommodate larger planes. On an unrelated subject, I hope Carroll is not going to take censorship of the Letters to the Editor with him to the Times. For a while, Aspen was probably the only place on the planet where public expression of free speech was actually tolerated.Richard GordonAspen
