GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” Police are looking for two men suspected of running off with approximately $850 in food that was stolen Thursday.

According to Shamrock Foods sales representative John Steele, a delivery driver was delivering the food to the Riviera Supper Club at about 9:45 a.m., as he has done once a week for the past 10 years.

Steele said that no one was at the restaurant when driver Gordon Hahn went to deliver the food, so he and Hahn left the delivery next to the front door and went next door to the Pepponino Dining Room for a cup of coffee. They returned 10 minutes later and discovered the food, along with the two-wheel dolly, was gone.

Steele said that the culprits got away with steaks, seafood and other miscellaneous items.

“It was bizarre,” Steele said. “Someone took the whole thing, the dolly and all.”

According to Glenwood Police Chief Terry Wilson, police spoke to a window washer in the area who reported seeing two men pushing the cart up Cooper Avenue and into the alley. But Wilson said that the witness said he thought they were just a couple of delivery guys.

“It’s one of those things that just goes to show you that people will steal anything that isn’t nailed down,” Wilson said.

Police are still looking for the suspects. Anyone with any information should contact the Glenwood Springs police at 384-6500.

And while it’s the first time he’s ever had anything like this happen in the 15 years he has worked for the food company, it’s a sign that times are changing.

“This is not small-town Glenwood Springs,” he said.
