An attack on gun control

U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft has launched the following attacks on sensible gun safety measures: 1. Denied the FBI access to background check records on gun purchases for investigation of possible terrorists.2. Made a decision to destroy background check records on gun purchases after 24 hours, instead of the current 90 days.3. “Re-interpreted” the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution from a “collective or state-regulated militia’s” right to keep and bear arms, to an “individual’s” right to do so. Actual text of the Constitution: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”After the Columbine High School massacre, Colorado voters overwhelmingly passed a ballot initiative to close gun show loopholes, but shortly thereafter Republican Sen. Allard opposed a similar measure in the U.S. Senate.Republican Governor Jeb Bush, a longtime opponent of sensible gun safety measures, signed into law a measure in Florida that allows out-of-state residents to carry firearms into Florida. Please consider a donation to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, 1225 Eye St., N.W., Suite 1100, Washington, D.C., 20005; or call 202-898-0792.Sven Erik Alstrom, AIAWoody Creek
