Alpine Bank warns of ongoing text and email scams
Alpine Bank is advising customers at all of its banking institutions to remain vigilant as cyber-fraudsters continue to send fake texts and emails designed to fool people into disclosing their confidential bank account information or transferring money out of their account.
The bank has a number of branch locations throughout the Roaring Fork Valley between Aspen and Glenwood Springs.
Individuals are specifically targeting victims by sending texts or emails requesting confirmation of a fictitious transaction. The messages often result in the scammer calling the victim, impersonating an institution’s fraud center. Once on the phone, victims are then asked to verify their login name and password or are encouraged to transfer money to a different account.
Alpine Bank attests that it will never ask any customer for their password or other login information. The baking institution is encouraging customers to be cautious of unsolicited messages telling people something is wrong with their account, especially if the content creates a sense of urgency. Additionally, customers should refrain from clicking links in messages and never send money to people they don’t know.
Alpine Bank customer bank accounts are secure as long as customer’s do not provide their login credentials or other access to their accounts. When in doubt, customers should call their bank’s main number and log into their account using the main bank website.
