All views are vital in Thompson debate

Dear Editor:

This letter is in response to Paula Scanlon’s recent letters to The Aspen Times, the latest one published Tuesday, Oct. 25.

She stated that she is for oil and gas drilling in the Thompson Divide area and is opposed to Sens. Bennet and Udall “trying to insert themselves in the BLM’s operational procedures.”

First of all, why should we give any credence to Ms. Scanlon’s letters since she lives in Grand Junction? She won’t have to live with the impacts of drilling in the Thompson Divide. Does she have a vested interest in drilling there?

Secondly, our elected representatives are supposed to represent all of our views, not just hers. Listening to all of our views, rather than just the oil and gas industry views, is what they were elected to do. That is what is in the best interest of the public.

Thank you, Sens. Bennet and Udall, for keeping an open mind and listening to all sides of this important issue.
