All hands on deck

Dear Editor:

What did a parent-teacher group in Basalt do when a tremendous tractor-trailer load of much-needed mulch was dumped on the elementary school playground a week before the first day of class? We rallied our excellent volunteers who are pictured pushing wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes on our Facebook page, PIE-Basalt Elementary School.

And though they fought hard and took only a little pizza break, there remained a daunting pile of wood chips. In came the town of Basalt to the rescue, sending one of its finest, Bentley Henderson, director of Public Works, on a skid steer to put that mulch in its place.

Bravo and thanks to all of these wonderful players in our Basalt Elementary School “Playground Success Story.”
