Aging badly

Dear Editor:

I recently read that Newt Gingrich thinks America should attack North Korea and Iran, and he’s giving the hard stare to Lichtenstein.

What is it with Republicans like Cheney, Gingrich, Rove, to name a few, that has turned them into such ass-kickers in their 50s and 60s? When the time was appropriate for them to do some real thumping and rid the world of “evil” they all pursued deferments like sharks after chum off the side of a fishing boat.

I also find it interesting that they are against gays serving in the military. James Inhofe, Republican senator from Oklahoma, says that everyone he knew in the Army and Marines would not fight for the guy next to them in the foxhole if that person was gay. Inhofe served in 1957, and he obviously culled that knowledge while we were locked in a life-and-death struggle with … no one!

If you chose not to serve when you were in your 20s because you were busy or afraid or were pursuing other interests, that’s fine, but at least have the common decency to support all the people who are willing to do the scut work, and let’s try to keep the number of conflicts with other nations to less than three.
