Affleck’s ‘Argo’ to screen at Aspen Filmfest 2012

ASPEN – Aspen Film announced that “Argo,” a thriller directed by and starring Ben Affleck, will be screened as the closing-night film at Aspen Filmfest 2012. The 34th annual Aspen Filmfest is set for Oct. 2 through 7, with events at the Wheeler Opera House and Isis Theatre in Aspen and the Crystal Theatre in Carbondale.
Based on true events, “Argo” chronicles the covert operation to rescue six Americans during the Iran hostage crisis. The film also stars Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”), Alan Arkin (“The In-Laws”) and John Goodman (“The Big Lebowski”).
Affleck, who has starred in “Gigli,” “Sum of All Fears” and “Pearl Harbor,” directed the previous crime thrillers “The Town” and “Gone Baby Gone.”
Along with “Argo,” Aspen Filmfest will present documentaries, foreign-language films and
independent features as well as guest filmmakers to engage in conversations about their work. The full program will be posted online on Sept. 7. Members of Aspen Film’s REEL People will
be able to buy tickets beginning Sept. 12; tickets go on sale to the public Sept. 17. Tickets will be available through the Wheeler Opera House box office and through http://www.aspenshowtix.com; tickets for Carbondale events also will be available at the Blend Coffee Co.
