A&E Agenda: Post holiday events

Alison Wonderland, Friday, Jan. 3 at 8:30 p.m., Belly Up Aspen

When it comes to making music, Alison Wonderland has always worn her heart on her sleeve. Her songwriting — visceral and raw — takes lines that feel like entries from her diary and twists the familiar burns of heartache and hurt into empowering mantras for festival crowds around the world to sing along to. Her production is as explosive as it is delicate, channeling intricate, uncompromising beat work and blending in the unexpected, like cello breakdowns, among swinging trap, bass beats, and dynamic, futuristic soundscapes. Wonderland is unapologetically herself and has shattered the status quo with her fearless approach to redefining what experimental pop electronic music can and should be.
Never one to color in between the lines, she has done things differently even from the onset of her musical career. In her formative years, she was a cellist with the Sydney Youth Orchestra by day, while moonlighting as a bass guitarist in local bands by night. Making her way around Sydney’s nightlife circuit, she was eventually introduced to DJing and learned the magic of producing and making her music.
Nikki Lane, Sunday, Jan. 5 at 4 p.m., The Jade Room at the Snow Lodge

A new collaboration between The Snow Lodge and Desert 5 is creating buzz in the music world, featuring one-of-a-kind Country Music Series.
Inspired by the Cosmic Americana vibe and rustic charm of Pioneertown, this 13-week series offers a unique blend of Desert 5 Spot’s distinctive style and the vibrant atmosphere of Aspen’s mountain scene.
A singer and songwriter who mixes the honky-tonk atmosphere of vintage country with the clever bite of indie, rock, Nikki Lane is a barroom siren whose music is tough, witty, and bold, inhabiting Nashville archetypes while upending them at the same time.
Lane’s songs walk a fine line between sincerity and irony, but the passion and effectiveness of her vocals keep her from sounding like a put-on, and her melodies mix rootsy twang and rock and roll edge with confidence.
She introduced her talent with the 2011 debut “Walk of Shame” and added a soulful edge with 2014’s “All or Nothin'” and 2017’s “Highway Queen.” With 2022’s “Denim & Diamonds,” she eased back on her country accents and added harder rock energy to her mix.
Below is the full lineup for the season, bringing fresh energy and unique flavor to the country music scene.
