Canadian touring band Bombargo at Belly Up Aspen

Bombargo is set to perform from 8-9:30 p.m., Sunday, June 1, at Belly Up Aspen as part of their “Stay Groovy Tour.”

Bombargo is a Canadian touring band that is well-known for their enthralling live shows, featuring sing-along anthems, double-brother harmonies, and powerful messages. The band was created in Saskatchewan by guitarist Spencer Chilliak and frontman Nathan Thoen, known for his “Jagger-like” moves. “We Are Bombargo” is their first full-length album since they evolved into a seven-piece touring band. Nathan’s brother Anthony Thoen, plus brothers Matt and Sammy Folkersen, are on keys and bass, respectively, while Connor Newton is on saxophone, and Nial Cubbon is on drums. This band is on the rise; people won’t want to miss it. The opening act for the evening is The Dirty Turkeys, a psychedelic rock band from Boulder, Colorado.

‘Jane Austen Wrecked My Life’ screening, June 4

June Indie Showcase is the 2024 comedy/romance “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life” from 7:30-9 p.m., June 4. It’s about a desperately single bookseller, lost in a fantasy world, who finds herself forced to fulfill her dreams of becoming a writer in order to stop messing up her love life. The screenwriter and director is Laura Piani. The movie is in English and French. The run time is 1 hour and 34 minutes. The screening will be at BTM Cinemas Isis Theatre, 416 E. Thievery Corporation, the Washington, D.C.-based duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, has been crafting genre-defying electronic music for over 25 years. Their sound blends elements from various cultures, incorporating influences from bossa nova, reggae, and jazz. Their live performances are known for their high energy and diverse array of instruments and vocals, offering audiences a rich, multicultural experience. Naka G as the opening act for the evening. The show is for all ages, but those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A limit of two general admission or six reserved tickets per purchaser.

‘Imitation of Life’ (1959) screening at Aspen Art Museum, June 6

The film “Imitation of Life” (1959) will screen at 8:30 p.m., Friday, June 6, at the Aspen Art Museum.

This Lana Turner drama navigates the complexities of racial prejudice, motherhood, and identity in the post-war era. It’s regarded as one of Sirk’s most emotionally resonant films and a classic in the melodrama genre. Reserved registration is required for this free screening. The director is Douglas Sirk, featuring Lana Turner, John Gavin, Sandra Dee, and Robert Aida. The film is a drama with a 125 minute run time.

Chromeo is scheduled to perform at 9 p.m., Friday, June 6, at Belly Up Aspen. Chromeo’s DJ sets are known for their energetic blend of electro-funk and dance beats to create an infectious, groovy night of dancing. Due to their popularity, people are advised to get their tickets early. Must be 21 or older with a valid ID.

2025 Aspen Saturday Market kicks off, June 7

The summer season of the 2025 Aspen Saturday Market runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting Saturday, June 7, and will continue every Saturday through Oct. 4. However, it shifts to 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting in September.

Located in downtown Aspen, the market forms a U-shape along Galena Street, Hopkins Avenue, and Hunter Street. The market features exclusively Colorado-grown produce and locally-made artisan goods. It also boasts a food court and live music.

Admission is free, and leashed dogs are welcome. Be mindful the pavement may become hot for our furry friends. Parking is limited.
