Adventurous school year begins
Dear Editor:At Basalt Elementary School we are very excited about the beginning stages of building our new school and are looking forward to an adventurous school year. We are indebted to the construction liaison team, elementary school and district staff, community members, local businesses and parents for helping as our campus experiences some changes, and as we embark on our school-year theme – “We are on this journey together as we build the school of our dreams.”If you had a chance to drive by the BES campus this summer you are aware that the demolition and construction process is well under way. Temporary classrooms are in place for the school’s administration office, as well as for older students in third and fourth grades. Younger students are housed in permanent buildings on the campus. For our staff, this will be a year of communication and collaboration. The students will be involved in the changes by naming the temporary modular classrooms and designing features in our new school.Every effort is being taken to ensure that our campus will be safe for all of our students this school year. Parents learned about the changes at the school through letters sent home in early August and during an open house the week before school started. The BES back-to-school night is also planned for Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.If you have any questions or concerns, you are welcome to call us at 384-5800. We also have a bilingual secretary on staff to assist you. We sincerely appreciate all the support that we have received as we begin this exciting year at Basalt Elementary.Suzanne Wheeler-Del Piccolo, BES principalDavid Anson, BES assistant principal
