ACES offering holiday camps

Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) is offering Winter Explorers day camp for kids ages 6 to 12 at Hallam Lake in Aspen over the holiday school break. Winter Explorers will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each weekday, Dec. 21 to 29 and Jan. 2 to 3, except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Participants will explore the Hallam Lake nature preserve and track animals, build a snow cave, make winter art creations, learn winter survival techniques, investigate how the natural world copes with this harsh season, and more.

ACES also is offering a two-day workshop for older students (ages 10 to 14) titled Winter World Photo Explorations, led by professional photographer Cath Adams. Students will explore the components of both the pinhole camera and digital photography, learn how to load film and basic camera mechanics and capture the beauty that surrounds Hallam Lake.

Space is limited and need-based scholarships are available. Registration and more information available at http://www.aspen nature.org/learn/programs/winter-spring/kids-classes/all.
