Accident injures three
Three auto-wreck victims were taken to hospitals in Aspen and Glenwood Springs on Tuesday night after falling temperatures left Highway 82 under a sheet of ice, according to authorities.The accident occurred about 9 p.m. in front of the Midvalley Medical Center. The wreck and subsequent investigation closed the westbound, or downvalley, lanes until about 10:20 p.m. Officers from the Basalt Police Department and Colorado State Patrol were on scene. Details weren’t immediately available.Preliminary reports indicated one person was taken to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs with serious injuries. Two patients were taken to Aspen Valley Hospital, one with serious injuries.A Pitkin County communications dispatcher said it was unknown as of 10 p.m. if there were any fatalities.Officials on the scene urged a dispatcher to contact the Colorado Department of Transportation apply sand to the highway because it had turned to “black ice” between Carbondale and Basalt.
Aspen City Council considers additional increases to food tax refund
Just as everyone was getting used to the $15 increase in the food tax refund, Aspen City Council unanimously agreed that they’d like to see it increase even more.
