AACP work recognized

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – The city of Aspen’s update to the Aspen Area Community Plan work was selected for the 2009 American Planning Association Colorado Community Engagement Award.

Public outreach and input for AACP included a website with background information such as the State of the Aspen Area Report; a speaker series; a “Jeopardy” game show; small group meetings with more than 170 attendees; a blog; “meetings in a box” for participants to hold their own small group meeting; a housing survey; a community survey completed by 534 community members; and three large group meetings with more than 450 attendees. Participants at the large group meetings could respond in real-time to questions via a “clicker” system. Overall, more than 1,000 people were a part of the process.

Formal recognition for the award will take place during the Annual State Conference of the American Planning Association in Estes Park in October.
