A world-class event

Dear Editor:Last Saturday’s Owl Creek Chase was truly a world-class event, with elite and citizen racers enjoying the same great course. This was all made possible by the 50 or so volunteers who gave our racers a fun and safe environment to enjoy their passion for nordic skiing. In particular, the huge efforts of Nancy Lesley, special events coordinator for the city of Aspen; Austin Weiss, trails coordinator for the city; and their staffs; Paul Perley, deputy assistant chief of crisis management at the Ute Mountaineer and his staff; Mike Trecker, our press officer and inside track to USSA; and finally Craig Ward, our chief of course (of course). It was a fitting celebration of 20 years of interconnected nordic skiing in our lovely vale. Thanks and congratulations then, to the Aspen-Snowmass Nordic Council, whose efforts got us to where we can attract a race of this level.Bob WadeUte MountaineerAspen
