A way to make a difference
Dear Editor:In response to Linelle’s letter on Monday concerning world hunger, poverty, AIDS, land mines, war and the refugees it produces, ethnic cleansing, oppression of women, child soldiers, slavery and sex abuse – these evils have existed for all known human history. One ray of hope exists in that, due to the age of information, these crimes are out in the open. The only thing that makes us collectively or individually responsible is doing nothing. Just choose one of these issues and join the millions of people who are making a difference. One very good example and a personal favorite is The Hunger Project (thp.org), which helps people help themselves while educating rich and poor nations about the roots of poverty. The fact that more and more people around the world are joining non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and taking the opportunity to make a difference is reason for optimism. As you pointed out in your letter, Linelle, we have to become the change we want to see in the world. Thanks for caring. Don’t give up.Richard HarrisAspen
