A voice worth hearing

Dear Editor:

This weekend, July 9-11, one of the world’s leading voices on climate change – Bill McKibben – will be in Aspen.

Mr. McKibben is an author, journalist and founder of 350.org. Last October, 350.org helped orchestrate more than 5,200 demonstrations in 181 countries calling on global leaders to act decisively to address climate change. (Perhaps you remember the “350” events held in Aspen and Carbondale …) CNN called it “the most widespread day of political action in the planet’s history.”

CORE and ACES will be hosting Mr. McKibben at Hallam Lake at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 9, for a free public presentation. It will be a fun public party that is also action-oriented. After Mr. McKibben speaks, we’ll help organize calls to government officials asking them to support comprehensive climate policy. Bring friends and family!

Bill McKibben will also speak at The Aspen Institute’s Ideas Fest at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 11.

Whether you’re a valley resident or just visiting for a few days, I encourage everyone to see Mr. McKibben. He is a great speaker and a true leader of our time.

executive director, CORE
