A small symbol of something threatening

Dear Editor:The wooden bridge near the post office is gone. It lent a sense of antiquity and earthiness to that area, like a beautiful, old gray barn in the midst of long grasses in the countryside. Now it feels cold and sterile, like I should be walking into a big-city super-mall.It’s not a prime piece of real estate, just a tiny little spot on this huge earth, but to trot down that old bridge and smell the pine needles, gave a certain warm feeling to that area, and now that feeling is gone. It seems a small symbol of the larger whitewashing that continues throughout Aspen, which is destroying something very authentic and heartfelt.Kathryn PrestonAspen
