A say on name of new Redstone span will cost you bucks

Aspen Times Staff Report

The town of Redstone is having a contest to select a name for a newly installed bridge to the town’s new Elk Park, but residents will have to pay to cast a vote on the bridge moniker.

The purpose of the contest – aside from naming the span – is to raise money for landscaping the park. The Redstone Reporter is sponsoring the contest.

Anyone can enter the contest by suggesting a name for the bridge, but each suggestion must be accompanied by $10. Suggested names may be serious, frivolous, imaginative or devious.

Anyone may buy a vote in the contest for $1. The Redstone Reporter reported rumors this week of large vote-buying efforts being organized by proponents of some suggested names.

Contest participants should put name suggestions, along with their name, address and phone number and $10, in an envelope and mail it to the Redstone Reporter, 591 Redstone Blvd., Redstone, CO 81623.

Suggested names and the number of votes they garner will be published in the Reporter. Anyone wishing to keep their suggestion private should write their suggestion on the outside of a sealed envelope containing their name, address, phone number and $10, and send it to the Reporter.

All proceeds from the contest will go to the landscaping fund.
