A respected coach

Six years ago, I met Nick Alcorta as an on-the-field baseball rival. During those years, we had many tough battles on the field and a drive to beat each other each time we played. It wasn’t until the past year, when Nick became less involved in the high school team, that I realized the respect I had for him as a coach. I began to see what an impact he had on his players, community and baseball in this valley.

Winning and losing baseball games is not the way to judge a successful baseball coach in an area where weather dictates how often you can even get outside during the high school season. Passion, dedication and a love for the kids make a successful coach. Nick was very successful. Today, baseball in the Roaring Fork Valley is less then it was a few days ago.

The Aspen High School baseball team sends its heartfelt condolences to Debbie, Dominick and Derek. Your husband and father touched many lives in a very short time.
