A remarkable World Cup

Dear Editor:

Great job, Aspen! Despite the nasty storm that Mother Nature threw at us, the 2008 Aspen Winternational World Cup races were a huge success. With the weather we had, many other race hosts might have canceled the event. But through the tireless efforts of hundreds, the races were successfully completed.

It truly was impressive to watch the workers and volunteers come together to pull off these races. It took the efforts of too many to mention, but some notable standouts include the snowmakers, groomers, ski patrol and lift operators of Aspen Mountain, the AVSC coaches, the ski pros of the ski and snowboard schools and the incredibly hard-working course crew. Special mention must be given to the dozen of hearty souls who braved cold and darkness while slipping the course at 5 a.m. each race day!

Your efforts didn’t go unnoticed. Coaches from many nations, as well as the World Cup directors, commended the course crew and course slippers for the remarkable achievement of pulling off such a great event.

Congratulations to everyone involved in running the 2008 Winternational.
