A plea from Mexico

Dear Editor:

A little over a year ago I contacted friends in the U.S. and Mexico about the possibility of contributing their old computers to a very worthy cause. The response was amazing, with more than 100 computers being donated to kids in central Mexico. Now it’s time for a second appeal.

If, as I have, you would go into a school where paper and pencils are in short supply and see the enthusiasm of the kids learning on a computer, you would want to go out and buy the class another new one, much less give them one you are no longer using. Take a minute to watch this short video on the program and you will realize how important it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtyPawf-YV0 or visit the organization’s website at http://www.cpjmex.org.

You ship the computers to Texas, and the Rotary Club arranges transportation to Mexico, where a Spanish-language keyboard is attached, age-appropriate educational software installed and “gringo” volunteers deliver the units where they are needed most. If you don’t have a computer to contribute, please pass this on to friends and especially business associates who might have multiple units to contribute.

And this volunteer organization can always use cash – see details below.

Thanks for your help.

Equipment needed: Desk or laptop PCs with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 operating systems (no Macs). Don’t send keyboards, as they only use Spanish and don’t need printers.

Please put your name and contact information on both the computer and the outside of the box so your gift can be acknowledged.

SHIPPING INFORMATION FROM USA: ATTN: Rotary Computers/Mexico, 2405 Pipeline Road, Cleburne, TX 76033. Phone 817-645-5095. Most people find FedEx Ground as the best way to ship

SEND CASH CONTRIBUTIONS TO: Computadoras Pro Jovenes, Box 84, 11905 Sara Road, Laredo, TX 78045.
