A non-representative opinion

Dear Editor:

Every time someone qualifies a sentence with, “This is not a racist remark,” I brace myself for the racist remark to come (Letters, Oct. 9).

The two national delegates from Pitkin County to the Democratic National Convention do indeed represent our demographics. As a community, we are active, philanthropic, educated, concerned about the state of the union and of the whole world, the environment, the welfare of all children, justice and equality.

The writer of that vicious letter practices racial politics and promotes the tokenization of race, gender and sexual orientation. Demographically, she expressed opinions from a minority, fringe and racist group of people who I pray will never represent the views of Pitkin County’s residents.
