A mistaken impression

Dear Editor:

A recent article in The Aspen Times leaves the impression that I have changed my stance on accepting free gifts (“Mayor relaxes ‘hard line’ regarding free passes,” May 2).

I have not. Specifically, I do not and have not accepted free tickets to basketball, football or other sporting events other than the X Games, an event that doesn’t charge admission.

As for the Wine and Food Classic and other events, I will attend as necessary to represent the city of Aspen and understand this and other events.

I am sure the reporter who wrote the misleading story, John Colson, meant no malice. I hope that The Aspen Times will print this letter, if not a correction.

Mick Ireland

mayor, Aspen
