A matter of when

Dear Editor:

In the March 3 edition of The Aspen Times, there was a news release concerning “It’s not a matter of if; it’s a matter of when.”

As a member of the Pitkin County Planning and Zoning Commission, I have tried numerous times to educate the public about the serious flooding danger in the Castle Creek drainage. Is it possible that a serious flood, such as the 1976 Big Thompson disaster in Colorado, could occur in the Castle Creek drainage?

With the legal term of “res ipsa loquitur,” the location or site of the Castle Creek Road is probably high above the river drainage for a historic reason. Possibly this spring or summer we may have such an event and that will be the “when,” in the Castle Creek drainage.
