A magical harvest
I would like to thank the Aspen Elementary School community for supporting the food service department/harvest cafe’s Mini Farmers Market at Back to School Night on Wednesday. It was a huge success and all money raised goes towards our local grass-fed-beef school-lunch program, so our students can enjoy hormone-, antibiotic-free beef from happy cows.
Most of the produce for the event came from our very own on-campus “Magical Garden” that was planted and harvested by the students with the support of some wonderful volunteers in the garden: Katie Yturri, Lee Leibermann and Nora and Joe Taylor.
Produce also was generously donated from the Aspen Saturday Market: Hillside Acres Paonia, Sustainable Settings Carbondale, Borden Farms Delta, Zephyros Paonia, Forte Farms Palisade, DeVries Farm Grand Junction, First Fruits Organic Farm Paonia and Okagawa Farms Grand Junction. Avalanche Cheese also donated its fabulous cheese and sausage for the event.
A huge thank-you to all the generous donors and volunteers who helped make this event a success.
Come and join your child for a meal in the Aspen Elementary or Aspen Middle school’s cafeteria to see the healthy (and delicious!) food we are serving every day.
