A great event

I would like to extend a big thank you from myself and the Mount Sopris Nordic Council to all of you who came out and skied for Sisu at Spring Gulch on Sunday, Jan. 26.

We had a record turn out of 114 skiers, ranging in age from 1 to 76 years, who skied a total of 1,592.5 kilometers, which, using our kilometer-year-scoring translates into 70,003.5 kilometer-years!

This year’s winners are:

Men distance: First, Andrew Gardner; second (three-way tie), Jim Franz, Harry Teague, and Franz Froelicher; third, Chris Tonozzi.

Women distance: First, Susy Ellison; second, Valerie Gilliam; third, Laurie Stone.

Most kilo/years skied: Harry Teague.

Citizen of the Day: Farland Fish.

We also owe a special thanks to Wells Fargo Bank for their very generous pledge of $2,000.

Other thanks go to the people and businesses that gave donations for door prizes: Ajax Bike and Sports, The Village Smithy, Red Rock Diner, Joy Blong Massage Therapy, and Nina Schipper. Our volunteers were Marge Palmer, Joy Blong, Roger Carlsen, Marty Schlein, Bentley Henderson, Lee Ann Eustis, Gail Smith, Ron Robertson and James Gilliam. Alex Menard, our groomer, did a great job of prepping the trail.

Once more, thanks to everyone who helped make this a great event.
