A grand showing

Dear Editor:Wow! Did Mother Nature throw her best at this year’s Elk Mountains Grand Traverse, and the Roaring Fork Valley was well represented. Four teams placed in the top 10.A big yahoo to Ted Mahon and Christy Sauer for bringing the coed title back to Aspen – way to go. Pierre and Andrea Willie put in a phenomenal effort and a second place finish overall. Sam Von Trapp and Nick Devore were seventh overall. Max Taam and Mark Falendar were ninth overall and first in their age division. Bob Wade and Elliott Larson were 10th overall (note: Elliott had his gator frozen to his beard at the Banard checkpoint). My girlfriend and I volunteered at the Banard Hut and witnessed what all the competitors went through. Hats off to all who finished this year and to those who gave it everything, but came up short. It’s okay, I’ll bet you will never look the name Taylor the same again. The 11th annual Elk Mountains Grand Traverse is less than a year away!Thomas RayAspen
