A glorious occasion

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank the Aspen Skico., the town of Basalt and ACES for a wonderful experience on Saturday, March 13. The volunteer tutors of English and their students from English In Action were treated to a morning snowshoe tour of the top of Aspen Mountain with ACES guides and lunch at The Sundeck restaurant. It was a glorious, sunny morning and we all were thrilled with the gondola rides, the mining history of Aspen Mountain, identifying the tracks of the mountain’s inhabitants and the exhilarating exercise on snowshoes. For some of us it was a first-time experience. The vista from the mountaintop on such a clear day was memorable and unique.

English In Action is a program promoting learning English as a second language. There is an Aspen branch and the original branch in Basalt. English In Action trains volunteer tutors and matches them with student applicants who wish an intensive one-on-one language learning experience. Shared experiences in a variety of activities such as our snowshoe tour provide language and cultural enrichment that enhance our learning and teaching endeavors.

Many, many thanks to our generous benefactors.

Ellen Rieder
