A fine display of sportsmanship

Dear Editor:

What a season! The whole Aspen community can be so proud of our Aspen High School students, and especially this week we applaud the boys of the Aspen Skiers football team. Their performance, commitment and sportsmanship came across so positively on Saturday as they faced the toughest opponent of the season.

Our boys played well, and all can be proud of how well they did. What a game! For all who were there – and it seems the whole town was on the sidelines – it was an exciting, “down-to-the-wire” game. They came so close to a win! But, the entire season was really a “win” for our boys, the coaching staff and the whole school. The program is a “win” for our whole community as we see students working hard as athletes and keeping up those efforts in their learning.

Congratulations and thanks to the Skiers football players and all who supported them. Thanks to coach Sirko and the entire coaching staff; and thanks to Carol Sams and Charlie Anastas for their hard work in providing the right environment. And, thanks to our terrific Aspen community for being part of creating places and spaces where kids can learn and thrive. It was a great season! Now we move on to basketball, hockey, skiing and more; stay tuned and stay involved.

It is both healthy and gratifying to have a community so connected to the schools and the students.

Kathy and Warren Klug
