A family in need

Dear Editor:

As many locals know, we lost one of our own in a rafting accident June 5. Tragically, Bill Sprang died, leaving his wife, Silke, their 8-year-old daughter, Kristen, and two stepchildren, Greg and Katrina Buesch, whom he helped raise from a young age. Due to medical conditions, Bill was unable to procure life insurance and now his family is experiencing tremendous financial distress and may lose their home.

A group of friends and neighbors are organizing a Spang Family Fundraiser on Sept. 8 at the Belly Up, including a silent auction, food and drinks from 7-9 and followed by live music. Our goal is to pay off the Spang family’s mortgage. We kindly ask for donations for a silent auction (no offers are too small) and monetary donations directly to the Spang Memorial Fund.

Please help our dear neighbors by e-mailing Brenda Brokamp (brendabrokamp@gmail.com) to donate. Monetary donations can be made to the Bill Spang Memorial Account at Alpine Bank at 600 E. Hopkins Ave., Aspen.

To all who have already generously donated, we thank you so very much. It’s times like these that prove how deeply compassionate and generous the hearts of our neighbors truly are. Thank you!

Brenda Brokamp
