A dandy day in Carbondale

CARBONDALE Today is Dandelion Day in Carbondale – a day set aside to commemorate the town flower (since it was declared in the late 1990s).It is viewed as the opening day of the summertime season of festivals, music, food and fun.The day begins with the opening of a flea market in Sopris Park, beginning at 8 a.m., followed by the Dandelion Dash 5K run at 8:30.A companion run/walk, the one-mile Dandelion Dash, starts at 10.At 10:30, participants in the “Procession of the Species” parade are to meet at Main and Second streets to line up for the parade, which begins at 11. And from 11:30 on, the park will be filed with music, food, dancing and a farmers’ market, until 4:30 p.m., or whenever the party dies down.
