A careless killer

Dear Editor:

Some careless person with a gun shot and killed our beloved dog on New Year’s Eve. Our home is in Missouri Heights on Panorama Drive next to BLM land. We found our dog about 200 yards away from our house with a bullet through his heart. His name was Cain. He was only 3 years old and he was our son’s best friend. Cain was one of those special, good dogs. I called him my baby elephant because he was big and gray with big floppy ears ” a gentle, friendly giant.

Many people who hunt like to park their pick-ups on Panorama Drive where the BLM land is and try to shoot and kill an elk, basically from their truck … even though this public land is within view of several homes. I beg that any hunter reading this who likes to hunt here, please find somewhere safer to shoot your gun, away from homes where children and domestic animals play. Whoever it was that killed our dog, shot their gun in the direction of our home 200 yards from our front porch. How careless! This person killed a member of our family just to get a thrill of shooting and killing something on New Year’s Eve. They knew they were shooting at a dog because they shot him at close range, and they left him there to die … unethical and unacceptable.

We love you, Cain, and we’re going to miss you so much. Thanks being such a good dog and giving us so much love and joy.
