A call for more bus service

Dear Editor:

In reading about the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority’s expansion plan adding buses and stations along the Highway 82 corridor, I am wondering why no one is speaking out about the Aspen Business Center’s lack of service.

It is rather incredulous to me that our major service/industrial area, community college, and residential development is only served by users crossing four-plus lanes of heavy traffic after a quite considerable walking distance for most. We saw Burlingame get pull-in bus service from the get-go for far fewer people. Not only is it an accident waiting to happen with folks not using the stop light to cross the highway, as the bus stop is not aligned there, it certainly discourages use for the residents who have to carry parcels or walk at night.

It seems to be so logical that the bus would pull in at the first entrance to the ABC from Aspen, make some kind of loop, continue across the highway to pick up airport passengers and then head in to Aspen. Many more people would use the service, thus reducing traffic and a serious accident in the future.

Please, citizens, speak up on this important issue that has been overlooked for too long while the opportunity presents itself.
