6 a Side nets success

Dear Editor:

Snowmass Village Recreation held the first 6 a Side soccer tournament on Saturday, Oct. 3, with six teams participating from around the state. An amazing fall day treated the players for a full day of high-attitude, lung-busting soccer action. The teams, Los Chuck Norris All Stars, Aspen United, Team Bubba, Moose Jaw Heads, Pumas, and Hodge Podge F.C., all played out their respective games. Aspen United and Hodge Podge F.C. played out the wooden spoon consolation game while Pumas and Los Chuck Norris All Stars advanced to the final for a rematch of an earlier game.

The Pumas took all the attacking barrage from a well-rested Chuck Norris team and then countered with three well-structured goals before the halftime break. Los Chuck Norris All Stars dug deep and scored two goals after halftime to create a frantic final 10 minutes with the score at 3-2. Pumas kept their composure and scored a late goal to win 4-2, and hoist the championship trophy at Tasters Pizza at the after party.

Thank you to Ryan Loeb for sharing refereeing duties all day; you did a great job keeping the flow of the game going. Cheers to all teams involved – next year we will be back bigger than ever, hopefully to an expanded two-day tournament. Thank you to Tasters Pizza for the party voucher and hosting the after party. Lastly, thank you to the Snowmass Village Parks and Recreation Department for getting the fields in great shape, lined and goals setup again for the tournament. Cheers, and we shall see you all next year.
