Aspen, CO Colorado

CARBONDALE ” A $1,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can shine light on an unusual crime in Carbondale.

Police said Thursday that 30 solar photovoltaic panels valued at $1,000 each were stolen from the Carbondale Recreation Center. The theft was discovered by an employee performing routine maintenance Wednesday night, the town government said in a statement.

The panels are valued at $1,000 each. “Rockwell International, the firm that finances the installation of solar systems nationwide, said this is the first time they’ve heard of panels being stolen after they were installed,” the town’s statement said.

Police Chief Gene Schilling said investigators have leads but no suspects.

“The community feels violated by this crime. Carbondale citizens are very upset, and they want to see justice prevail with the arrest of the thieves,” he said.

A $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest for the theft has been authorized by the Victim’s Assistance Board. Anyone with information should call the Carbondale Police Department at 963-2662.
