2A football playoffs: Aspen travels to Classical Academy, Basalt to host Salida

The Aspen High School football team is making its return to the postseason for the first time since 2013.
The Class 2A playoff bracket was unveiled Sunday morning and the Skiers (8-1 overall) are a No. 12 seed traveling Friday to No. 5 seed Classical Academy (8-1) in Colorado Springs. The game is set for 7 p.m. Friday.
Basalt High School (8-1) is a No. 6 seed and will host No. 11 seed Salida (7-2). That game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Basalt officials said Monday. The winner would play the following week vs. the winner of No. 3 Bayfield and No. 14 Elizabeth, again with the highest remaining seed hosting.
The Longhorns also hosted a first-round playoff game in 2016, losing as a No. 8 seed to No. 9 seed D’Evelyn, 27-20.
The Aspen-Classical winner plays the following week vs. the winner of No. 4 La Junta and No. 13 Pagosa Springs. The highest remaining seed will host.
The 2017 2A first-round playoff match-ups are as follows:

No. 8 Eaton vs. No. 9 Sterling
No. 4 La Junta vs. No. 13 Pagosa Springs
No. 5 Classical Academy vs. No. 12 Aspen
