Aspen Times Staff Report

A one-hour TV special about the Dec. 18-19 24 Hours of Aspen ski race on Aspen Mountain airs New Year’s Day from 3 to 4 p.m. on ESPN.

The young Swiss team of Arno Hoenicke and Robert Moze emerged victorious after round-the-clock racing, followed by Canadians Rob Bosinger and Roman Torn, who finished just 20 seconds off the pace. The Swiss logged 72 laps and 235,224 vertical feet in 2 hours, 52 minutes and 13 seconds of actual race time on Ajax’s Spar Gulch course.

On the women’s side, the U.S. Women’s team of Noel Lyons-McMenamy and Charlotte Moats fought off a charging Aspen Women’s team of Asia Jenkins and Heather Paul to win by 25 seconds after 71 laps.

The 24 Hours event raised more than $400,000 for local nonprofits Challenge Aspen and the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club.
