1A is not a tax

Dear Editor:

This October, Pitkin County voters will have the chance to weigh in on Referendum 1A. 1A will enable the county to create the Energy Smart Local Improvement District that will help homes and businesses finance energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements.

1A is NOT a tax. The Energy Smart Loan Program is voluntary, and loan assistance and repayment will only affect individuals who consent to participate in the program and sign up with the county! If you don’t use the program, you don’t pay for the program. It’s as simple as that.

A yes vote on 1A will, without raising taxes, help to create jobs, stimulate the local economy, and reduce energy costs at a time when our community most needs this kind of assistance. To learn more about the program, please visit http://www.voteyes1A.org or call 300-7107.
