10-year-old is busted for brandishing knife

A 10-year-old boy at Bea Underwood Elementary School in Battlement Mesa allegedly used a knife to threaten several 10- and 11-year-old girls Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The girls told authorities that the boy brandished a three-inch blade and aimed it at them in a threatening manner, according to a written statement from Garfield County Sheriff Tom Dalessandri.

“A young boy passing by told the boy with the knife to leave and that diffused the incident,” Dalessandri said.

Authorities interviewed all the juvenile parties involved, he said, before referring the investigation to the district attorney’s office.

The incident occurred outside the school building itself, but on school grounds, at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Dalessandri.
