Gift Ideas for our Most-Loved

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is upon us and with it comes an excellent, albeit sometimes obligatory, opportunity to shower your most-loved with gifts.

I seem to vacillate from year to year as to how much I participate in this seemingly Hallmark-fueled holiday, but if someone asked me what I would want, the last thing I would say is chocolate and flowers. No matter what you may be claiming on your relationship status, see this day as a chance to be thoughtful and intentional about a gift that could serve as a mid-winter pick-me-up to honor someone you love. From lover to friend, fur baby or baby mama, below are some gift ideas to show your affection.

1. Faherty Yellowtail Paloma Duster

Definitely a splurge, the Paloma Duster is a one-of-a-kind statement sweater made from cozy, lightweight, 100% organic cotton. Faherty commissioned Los Angeles-based fashion designer Bethany Yellowtail, originally from the Crow Nation, to design this piece with inspiration from the landscapes and homelands of the Northern Cheyenne and Crow Nations. A shawl collar and removable belt make it an excellent layering piece for everything from pants to dresses. I personally have the Yellowstone River color scheme, but had the opportunity to check out some of Yellowtail’s additional designs for Faherty at the Outdoor Retailer Show in Denver last week. They are all truly beautiful, stunning and unique. $348

2. Orvis Memory Foam Bolster Dog Bed

At this stage in life my main squeeze is my dog, Finch. He’s a crazy German Shorthaired Pointer that plays hard and crashes hard. I recently got him this beautiful new bed from Orvis and he never wants to leave it. Even as I’m writing this column, he’s passed out on its plush, streamlined, polyester-filled, three-sided bolster. The orthopedic memory foam base supports joints and muscles, relieves pressure points and improves circulation, and the water-resistant liner unzips for easy removal and washing. You can even get your dog’s name embroidered on the back. Available in four different sizes and several color options. $269-389

3. Revelshine Wine 3-pack

What’s Valentines Day without wine? Revelshine is created by a fourth-generation Sonoma County winemaker and is a serious upgrade to most boxed or canned varieties made for the outdoors. The quick-chill, lightweight, unbreakable aluminum packaging stands out due to its slender and durable design and is great for throwing in a pack for a toast on a snowshoe hike or for responsible, glass-free drinking at a hot spring. With a leakproof, resealable lid, these attractive bottles can also be reused. The three-pack includes a white, a rosé and a red, but the rosé is my favorite. $45

4. Juniper Ridge Candle and Body Wash

With a goal of bringing inside the restorative fragrances of wild places, Juniper Ridge creates scents that are reminiscent of majestic landscapes. Fragrances like Sierra Forest, Redwood Mist, Desert Cedar and Coastal Pine help bring the healing reminder of remote and rugged places to the comfort of your home with organic, plant-based and stream-distilled essential oils. Great gift options are the body wash and candle. The scents I’ve tried smell pretty woodsy and might be more suited for men, but any outdoor adventurer will appreciate how the earthy aromas feel like bringing nature inside. $35 & $12
