Mountain Mayhem: Derby Day Gala

May Selby

Carbondale’s Thunder River Theatre Co. hosted its annual Derby Day Gala on Saturday, May 5, at The Orchard in view of the stunning Mount Sopris. In keeping with the festive theme, the dress code called for fancy hats and springtime semi-formal for the ladies with styles such as seersucker suits for the gents. The sold-out event began with a cocktail reception featuring mint juleps from Marble Distilling Co. paired with Derby-inspired hors d’oeuvres. Dinner followed from Chef Jimmy Nadell and Bravo Fine Catering.

Throughout the evening, entertainment and revelry was provided by TRTC’s Consensual Improv! comedy troupe along with Diva Cabaret singers. Alpine Bank was chosen as the 2018 honoree of TRTC’s Community Partner Award in recognition of its long-standing support of the organization.

Proceeds from sponsorship support, ticket sales, a running of the ponies fundraising game, the silent auction, a paddle raise and a surprise announcement of a matching challenge gift from Integrated Mountain Group all benefit the beloved theatre’s programs.
