Marshall Direct Fund Reception

The 11th annual Marshall Direct Fund Reception took place July 17 in Aspen, graciously hosted by Blaine and Alexa Wesner at their home. Alexa Wesner was the U.S. ambassador to Austria until 2017.

Guests gathered on the sunny summer evening in support of Marshall Direct Fund, which is dedicated to providing education for youth and economic empowerment for women in Pakistan to move from poverty to opportunity. Founded by Silbi Stainton, Marshall Direct Fund provides free quality education for girls and their brothers, business training for women and global youth leadership connections.

Husain Haqqani, the former ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, was slated to speak at the reception, but unable to join. Stainton resourcefully found a suitable stand-in, CNN correspondent Peter Bergen. He and Dan Baer, executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, discussed the intersection of gender equality, democracy, foreign policy and peace. These issues tie in with Marshall Direct Fund’s mission to alleviate poverty in Pakistani communities by providing free, quality education to girls and their brothers, as well as economic empowerment opportunities for women.

The host committee for the event includes Lisa and George Baker, Kimberly Bloom, Terri and Tony Caine, Julia Douglas, Sue and Ron Hopkinson, Melony and Adam Lewis, Brittanie Rockhill, Clare Evert Shane and Steven Shane and Silbi Stainton.
