Aspen Times Weekly Libation: William Wolf Banana Mint Julep

Make It

2 ounces William Wolf Pecan Bourbon

Fresh banana puree

¾ ounce simple syrupa

¾ ounce fresh lime juice

A handful of slapped mint and banana slice for garnish

In a rocks glass add ice and fresh banana puree. Add remaining ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain over ice. Garnish with slapped mint and banana slice and serve.

Derby Day is this weekend, which means outlandish hats and refreshing mint juleps (as well as horse racing, of course). And while a traditional julep always does the trick, I recently stumbled across a recipe I’m eager to try: the William Wolf Banana Mint Julep. This Derby-centric cocktail adds a few twists with banana puree, fresh lime juice and William Wolf Pecan Bourbon served up with the traditional mint garnish. Pitched to me with a tagline of “beware of wolves in thoroughbred’s clothing,” this is a julep that has me ready to take a bite.
