The mixologists down at Woody Creek Distillers aren’t afraid to experiment with their eponymous vodka and rye whiskey. Of course that’s not difficult when you’re working with award-winning spirits; the company’s new Colorado Straight Rye Whiskey, which was launched in November, recently received recognition from the Tastings International Review of Spirits, with a gold medal and rating of 90 points. “We are thrilled to have received this recognition from the Beverage Tasting Institute,” said Woody Creek Distillers Operating Partner Mark Kleckner. “We have gotten great feedback from everyone from bartenders to the public and quickly sold out of our first years’ production.” One of the bartenders’ favorites: Smoke on the Water. Crafted with apricot preserves, lemon, agave nectar and barrel-aged tobacco bitters, this light whiskey drink is complex with sweet, tart and smoky flavors.
