Aspen Times Weekly Libation: No Ka Oi

The recent snowfall in Aspen (ack!) got me day-dreaming about our summer vacation to Maui and, ultimately, to all the refreshingly fruity and tropical coccktails I enjoyed. There were the ones we made at our condo, others were enjoyed poolside, and a few standouts were found at open-air bars and restaurants near our resort paradise. At the top of the list was Monkeypod Kitchen’s No Ka Oi, which shouldn’t come as a surprise since the No Ka Oi translates to “is the best.” And it really was: the lilikoi puree (kind of like a passion fruit) and simple syrup blended perfectly with the lime and Thai basil for a sweet Asian flavor. And, you have appreciate a drink made with a locally made spirit; Ocean Vodka is distilled in Kula, Maui, just upcountry from the place we called home for two amazing weeks. `Okole maluna!
